Are High Chairs Really Dangerous?

Many children in the U.S. are treated in emergency rooms each year for injuries related to high chair accidents.  Just like with many injuries and accidents that occur with children, it is often from improper use or lack of supervision.  Of course, there are situations where the highchair is defective, but those instances are rare.  The best way to avoid high chair related accidents is to make sure you are using the high chair properly, and are supervising your children at all times.  Here are some tips to help you avoid these types of accidents:

1.  Always use the safety straps

It may not seem necessary, but it’s so important to always use the seat belt to secure your child.  Even if your child isn’t extremely mobile yet, it’s still better to use the seat belt to be on the safe side.

2. Keep high chair away from tables and other solid surfaces

Kids can push against the table with their feet and knock the whole chair over, so keep the high chair at a safe distance from tables and counter tops.

3. When unfolding the high chair to set it up, ensure it locks into place
